Trump Administration Being Asked to Decide on DACA in September

Uncertainty continues for immigrants of all ages in Arizona and across the United States. In September, President Donald Trump could make a decision on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA).

Trump is being pressured to let the program expire, while DACA beneficiaries and their families are gathering in Phoenix to rally support for DACA.

Families fear that Trump will end DACA and allow 30,000 young people in Arizona to be deported.

Tens of thousands of young people are registered for DACA in Arizona alone, and a decision by Trump to end the program could place all of those young people and their families at risk.

One DACA beneficiary in Phoenix expressed his concern about what the president will do: "He's willing to ensure that ICE officers come at 5 in the morning, knock on our doors, sweep away our families, and crush us."

However, Trump is believed to be considering a number of options. One option is to continue DACA protections for current beneficiaries, but to not protect future applicants.

In any case, people of all ages need to be aware of their options for avoiding deportation.

Many people fear that that Trump's recent pardoning of convicted sheriff Joe Arpaio signals how the president will decide on DACA.

The president has already demonstrated his willingness to make very unpopular decisions and say very unpopular things.

Families in Arizona have good reason to be concerned.

If you have worries about any of these matters, you should speak with an immigration attorney about your options. Sanchez Law Group is proud to advise and represent immigrants and their families in Yuma and throughout Arizona.
